Geography Club

In Geography Club students have been playing a hazard management game, preparing our cities for an earthquake, to see who could get the most points and save the most lives and damage!

They successfully managed to prepare their cities for earthquakes, even managing to beat Miss Ascough!

Jamie’s Farm

12 students went on a week long residential to South Wales to take part in all aspects of farm life, including feeding and cleaning out the animals, cooking for the whole team and challenging themselves to physical pursuits. Feedback from one of the farmers was “These young people are great! They are really getting stuck in and pushing themselves out of their comfort zones”

Student Leadership Team

It is with great pride that we have launched our new Student Leadership Team. We have over 40 students who have been trained through the Co-op Young Leaders Programme from the Co-op Academies Trust. Students have selected a role within each committee and are currently busy writing plans for projects they hope to launch after February half term.

Cultural Cuisine

As an academy, we want to recognise different cultural events throughout the year. Following successful cultural cuisine days on Eid and American Independence day we started in half term 1 with a Halloween themed lunch. Students got to have Spider web pizzas, eyeball pasta, and creepy cupcakes. 

During the week there was a Halloween cupcake sale at break run by our Student Leadership which raised £55 for the charity MIND.

Students and staff also enjoyed a Christmas Lunch during the final week of half term 2!

  

House Teams

Following the period of bubble timetables we were incredibly excited to start our House competitions, House assemblies, and the process of selecting House leaders. Students had the opportunity to get involved in competitions like Netball, Football, Rugby, Rock Band, Dance, Talent show, Recreational Art, Pirate Maths, Squash pong, Bake off design and textiles. We will soon be announcing the House Leaders for each House who will also become part of the Student Leadership Team!

Learning for Life

This year we have introduced drop-down mornings each half term for students to have external workshops/speakers and internal sessions to support their learning outside of the curriculum. Sessions have included Study sensei for Year 11 to help support preparation for exams, Happy Puzzle company working in groups in Year 7 learning about teamwork, collaboration and communication. Year 8 watched a play from a local theatre company about understanding the dangers of knife crime and Year 12 had the opportunity to visit Leeds Beckett University. These opportunities are wonderful for our students to understand, learn and explore life and their community.

Extracurricular

Make sure to get involved in our extracurricular clubs and activities. From January we have a dhol drum teacher offering students private 1:1 or 1:2 lessons, if you’re interested, please contact Mr Berry!

Coding Success!

Key Stage 3 Computer Science students have been simulating an earthquake using our Lego prime kits kindly donated and supported by Raising Robots!

West Yorkshire Police Careers Event

West Yorkshire Police is currently underrepresented by women, so they held an event at Priesthorpe to provide information about what it is like to be a woman working for the Force!

  

REACH

Priesthorpe students completed the Trust REACH project, completing local work experience placements and mentoring. After lots of hard work, they attended a celebration event at Co-op Academy Manchester and were presented awards by Chris Thomlinson, the Co-op Academies Trust CEO. The programme brought together students from different academies, inspiring them to think about aspirational careers in STEM!

Fire Officers tackle emergency situations including fighting fires and dealing with car crashes. They also educate the public about fire safety. The working conditions are often dangerous. Excellent team working and problem solving skills are required.

Desert Greener

The amount of the world’s land covered by desert is growing each year. Desert Greeners will plant trees and plants to make deserts more hospitable. They will also divert rivers through regions experiencing drought, or regions needing to be greenified to sustain plant and animal life.

Pudsey Community Project – Children’s Clothing Bank

Pudsey Community Project runs a free children’s clothes bank. It’s well stocked with all kinds of children’s clothes, including school uniform, shoes and coats. The project aims to help people save money and reduce waste going to landfill. If you’d like children’s clothes, you can use the Pudsey Community Project Facebook page to send a message or email jo@pudseycommunity.org.uk

All clothes are free, but you’re welcome to make a donation if you wish. The team can either make up a bag of clothes for you to collect (including any specific items you require) or you can book an appointment if you’d prefer to look at the clothes in person. The clothes bank is open to everyone and free of charge. They also accept donations of good condition children’s clothes (ages 0-11) including high school uniform for 11-18 year olds at our drop-off sessions Monday to Saturday 10am-12pm at Pudsey Parish Church.
