Dear Parents and Carers,

We are delighted to invite you to the Academy on Wednesday, 26th February, for your child’s Year 9 Meet Your Coach and Teacher day (MYCAT).

What is MYCAT?

At the MYCAT event, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with your child’s coach and subject teachers to discuss their progress, areas for development, and future academic planning. In particular, conversations with subject teachers will help pupils decide which GCSE options are best suited to their interests and skills. Teaching staff will discuss key aspects of each course and the essential skills needed during appointment times.

Additional Information Available at MYCAT:

• Year 9  GCSE Option Information Presentation: Covering important information about supporting your child in Year 9, with key information on selecting GCSE options.

• Family Support: Details on support services available for families through community groups.

• Uniform and Equipment Shop.

• GCSE Option Information Stalls: We will have a range of stalls featuring information about all the different GCSE option choices available. You will have the opportunity to speak with students currently studying these subjects. For subjects that are completely new to pupils, expert subject staff will be on hand to provide further details and answer any questions about studying these new subjects in Key Stage 4.

What Will Happen on the Day?

On Wednesday, 26th February, the Academy will finish lessons at 12:35 p.m., allowing for appointments from 1:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. By offering times during both the afternoon and early evening, we aim to accommodate all families. Lunch will be available for students from 12:35 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

During the event, food will be available for families, and the Year 9 GCSE option information presentation will be held three times—at 2.25 p.m., 4.10 p.m., and 5.55 p.m.—covering key information on supporting your child and guidance on GCSE options. Please note that appointments will pause during these presentations.

You can book appointments with your child’s teachers and coach via Arbor, using the parental portal. If you experience any issues with the booking system, please contact the office.
